Eclectic, perfectly tailored to your needs and full of soul – that’s what you get with Agata Łysiak’s designs. She’s a member of the Association of Interior Designers and founder of the PIĘTRO design studio. The architect, based in Pabianice and Łódź, puts the client first and aims to create spaces where people feel comfortable. At the same time, she finds inspiration in many domestic and foreign sources, and cultivates a passion for art and design in the broadest sense.
Inspiration and experiences – what sparks this passion?
Agata Łysiak knew she wanted to work in interior design from a very young age. The initial impulse came from her meeting with an interior designer, who was also the wife of an 233eartist Norbert Hans, a friend of Agata’s parents. To this day, the architect counts the couple among the people who shaped her approach to design. Paweł Ejsmont, an architect with whom she took on her first job while still a student, also ranks high on Agata Łysiak’s list of professional inspirations. These local authority figures are joined by global icons such as Philippe Starck and Karim Rashid.
First steps – how to turn fascination into work?
The first important confirmation that following a child’s passion is a good choice came at university. Wanting to avoid comparisons with her sister, a graduate of the Łódź University of Technology, Agata Łysiak decided to trust her artistic soul and chose the Academy of Fine Arts, specifically the Faculty of Industrial Design, which at the time was the degree programme most closely related to interior design. In addition, throughout her studies, she collaborated with her sister, a cubature architect, drawing and refining details. This confirmed her desire to develop as a designer.
Today, Agata Lysiak has a truly diverse range of experiences. For a few years now, she’s been running her own studio. In her private life, she is also a mother of two children, paints pictures and explores her fascination with ceramics. She also continues to expand her collection of miniature chairs by famous designers. Each of these passions is reflected in her designs, which are distinguished by elements with soul.
What values and outlook guide your design work? What are your priorities in creating interior designs?
‘Well-designed items are everyone’s right. Both a housewife’s and a millionaire’s’ – Philippe Starck. This is the motto I follow in my practice. I strive to create spaces that clients feel comfortable living in, that is, spaces that are not only functional but also beautiful and atmospheric.
Do you have a favourite interior design style? If so, what kind?
I feel comfortable creating eclectic spaces. I appreciate art, antiques and other interesting objects ‘with soul’. I wish people thought more about these kinds of elements. In my opinion, they give interiors personal touch and character.
What materials and technologies do you most like to use in your projects?
Of course, I am most fond of natural stone and wood, but I always tailor solutions to the client’s expectations and available budget. When selecting products, I am primarily guided by functionality that is appropriate for the needs of a specific investor.
What are your experiences of working with clients? What do you think is the key to a successful collaboration?
In my opinion, listening carefully to the client at every stage of the project work is fundamental. I always try to go as deep as possible into the needs of the investors and understand them, and I treat my own taste and style as secondary issues. At the end of the day, it is the client who is going to live in the place, not me.
Can you describe the most interesting project you have worked on?
One of the most interesting projects for me was the Reinhold Lifestyle fitness club chain, which I designed in 2008, shortly after graduating from university. Although the company unfortunately went bankrupt, the contacts I made during this process opened up new perspectives for me at that time.
Designing our own home and office was also quite a challenge. I was one of the most demanding investors for myself.
Do you offer a consultation service?
Yes, we do.
