‘Interior design is an art that can change everyday life’ – this is the principle that Agnieszka Deptuła, founder and chief designer of SPACELAB, follows in her work. Since she decided to set up her own studio in 2001, modern-style interiors have become her real passion. She is inspired by the desire to foster good experiences by creating thoughtful and beautiful spaces, whether she embarks on residential, office or commercial interior design.
Interior design – bringing together a passion for aesthetics and functionality
SPACELAB is like the dream come true for Agnieszka Deptuła of a boutique architecture studio, where individual, tailor-made projects would be created. It is also an expression of her passion for interior design – a field she sees as a fusion of arts, aesthetics and functionality. The architect has always been fascinated by the impact of the surrounding space on well-being, so in her projects, she tries to create, above all, good experiences.
The SPACELAB mission: to create a bridge between architecture and interior design
Agnieszka Deptuła completed her degree in architecture in Poznań and chose to make her future in this city. However, before opening her own studio there, she further expanded her knowledge by working in a large architecture studio. This experience is now paying off in interior design. The comprehensive approach that characterises SPACELAB’s projects means that the final result is in no way inferior to the vision, and the realities of construction never force the plans made to be abandoned.
The founder’s many years of experience working on building projects means that investors who turn to SPACELAB for interior designs for their houses, flats or commercial spaces can count not only on an effective arrangement, but additionally gain the full support of an architect. This is particularly important when implementing projects that are functionally or locationally demanding and those that involve cross-industry collaboration.

What values and outlook guide your design work? What are your priorities in creating interior designs?
SPACELAB is a boutique architecture and interior design studio where technology meets art. Our philosophy is about creating spaces that give comfort and a sense of uniqueness. Floor space is certainly not the priority. We are just as interested in the design of a bedsit as we are in the design of a premium interior. What counts is an intriguing concept, which we then give a timeless quality.
Do you have a favourite interior design style? If so, what kind?
Our developments are based on a modern style. In interior design, we very much appreciate the minimalist trend.
What materials and technologies do you most like to use in your projects?
We often work with quartz sinters and also design a lot of bespoke furniture for our interior projects. We have excellent contractors who are a treasure trove of technical knowledge and guarantee the quality of our projects.
What are your experiences of working with clients? What do you think is the key to a successful collaboration?
When we started out, we thought that the key to a successful interior design was the budget. Over time, we have noticed that the real key to a successful completion is a knowledgeable investor, giving trust to the architect and consistently implementing the project. Why? Because interior design is a difficult art of controlling a series of related decisions, and it is the architect who sees the whole project ‘from a bird’s eye view’ (the so-called ‘big picture’) and can most accurately assess how changing a certain fragment affects the coherence of the whole project. Over time, it has become apparent that at SPACELAB we are able to successfully deliver interiors across a range of budgets – both premium quality mansions and bedsit arrangements – and the key to success and successful delivery is not so much finance, but trust, communication and a shared understanding of the design vision.
Can you tell us about one of the most interesting projects you have worked on?
One of the most fascinating challenges for us has been the FORMSON office interiors project in Murowana Goślina due to the unconventional choices of finishing materials. The leitmotiv of the project became walls strewn with thousands of kitchen accessories produced by our client, which created a truly surprising effect.
Do you offer a consultation service?
Very much so! At SPACELAB, you can opt for a design consultation, e.g. before buying a property. We then help you assess the potential and check the functionalities to accommodate. This analysis by an architect is a good alternative for buyers who have not yet decided on an interior design project. From an experienced architect and interior designer, this is a signature knowledge in a nutshell given at an affordable budget and time. We offer consultations online, on-site at our architecture studio in Poznań or by appointment.
