Family power in interior design – Mocna Pracownia and a success story

Interior of the MOCNA Pracownia project

The founders of the Mocna Pracownia design studio share not only a passion for architecture but also blood ties. Even during their time at university, Magdalena Moc-Kwiecień and Mateusz Moc (who are siblings) had thought to try of working together. After many years of getting experience in different design studios, they joined forces for good and started their own business in 2017.

First steps to make their dreams come true

Even in primary school, Mateusz Moc dreamt of becoming an architect. Whilst still at technical school, he designed the kitchen in his family home and made his first visualisation in AutoCad. Magdalena Moc-Kwiecień created her first serious project during her studies at the Cracow School of Art. At the time, she was a part-time waitress and her employer in those early days, planning to renovate the restaurant, asked her for a project. In fact, everything was delivered 100% according to her idea. The effect gave Magdalena so much satisfaction that she could not imagine her future without design work.

Trust, communication and inspiration exchange in the design process

Although the idea to work together appeared as early as their university years, over the many years that followed, the siblings worked in various studios, completing projects both in Poland and abroad. The knowledge and experience gained in diverse backgrounds make Magdalena Moc-Kwiecień and Mateusz Moc perfectly versatile in their project work. Quite often, the exchanging of ideas and thoughts together is their greatest inspiration. By their own admission, the open communication, trust and close working relationship make the whole process very easy. The magical gift of being able to read each other’s minds can also be helpful.

What values and outlook guide your design work? What are your priorities in creating interior designs?

Our focus is on ergonomics and functionality. These two are the most important values for us. Aesthetics, of course, come second, which is very important, but for us, the interior must first and foremost be suitable for comfortable living and intuitive to use.

Do you have a favourite interior design style? If so, what kind?

We work on projects in any style but most often in minimalist and modern interiors.

What materials and technologies do you most like to use in your projects?

We focus on materials that are readily available to the customer and solutions that are feasible. Occasionally, we design a new form of furniture ourselves, e.g. fitting. However, we do take care of the completion then. We develop the designs technologically and the guidance on how to carry them out in order to be able to give the client a final solution.

What are your experiences of working with clients? What do you think is the key to a successful collaboration?

Listening to the client’s expectations is the key to a successful collaboration. The more we listen to their needs, the better we can tailor the interior to their specifications. We don’t force our visions. Instead, we try to use our knowledge and experience to make our client’s dreams come true. Sometimes we try to persuade people to make some compromises. And when the client is delighted with the result in the end, it gives us the proverbial ‘kick’ to keep going and growing. This is when we know we’ve done it right.

Can you tell us about one of the most interesting projects you have worked on?

With no hesitation, we can say that one of the most interesting and rewarding projects was a barbershop in Katowice. The working relationship with the investor was sensational. She trusted us 100%, and we were able to return the favour with a great design. When a client entrusts an interior entirely to us, it usually shows in the way it is delivered. The designs then come out best. In addition, we really enjoy creating public interiors. We then have more leeway and the project itself reaches a larger audience.

Do you offer a consultation service?

Yes, we do offer consultations. As a rule, consultations take place in our studio or online. If a client so wishes, such a service can also take place at the investment site.
